The Square and Circular

Geometry of the I Ching

The Geometry of the I Ching is a little difficult to explain, but it's not really that difficult to understand, once it has been seen. A serious effort has been made to be very precise and clear in the language used concerning this topic. As a result, the words are rather dry and repetitive, containing a few important changes where they need to be applied.

Fu Hsi Numbers

When the thirty two consecutive Horizontal Pairs of odd and even numbers found in Fu Hsi’s Square are taken to be the two end points of a line, and then such a line is drawn upon Fu Hsi's Square, the very simple design on the right appears.

When the Hexagrams of the Magic Square of Mercury are taken to be successive Horizontal Pairs, and those pairs are taken to be the two end points of a line and then such a line is drawn upon Magic Square 2, the design on the right appears:

When King Wen's successive Horizontal Pairs are taken to be the two end points of a line and those two numbers are connected by such a line drawn upon Fu Hsi's Square, the design on the right appears:

Up To Top

The goal is to clearly explain the geometry and to avoid confusion. Here, as with the music, graceful words don't really matter that much, the designs speak quite eloquently all by themselves, in any language!
